Olayan School of Business (OSB) at the American University of Beirut (AUB) is organizing the 7th annual Women in Data Science (WiDS) conference, to take place on April 27-28, 2023 at AUB. This is a technical conference organized in close collaboration with the Stanford Institute for Computational and Mathematical Engineering (ICME) and is the largest hub for data science in the region.

Data science is a rapidly growing field and is redefining knowledge creation of many fields. It is driving innovation, changing our society, and our future. This field is advancing and even changing existing trends in business and technology. The new economy is adapting to this change and moving into ingesting and integrating this rapid real-time flow of data. Data science has proven to be a leading force that can reshape the economy and elevate the services and/or products by integrating AI into its core. Data science educational initiatives ensure that Lebanon stays at the forefront of this digital revolution and WiDS @ AUB is advancing knowledge in the field, pushing Lebanon to be an integral part of the data science global movement, and paving the way for Lebanon to become the hub of Data Science in the MENA region.
AUB WiDS aims at providing an opportunity to hear about the latest practical and research developments in the field, learn how leading-edge organizations are leveraging data science for success, encourage exchanges of ideas and multi-disciplinary collaboration, and increase opportunities for women and girls in data science, by providing support and mentorship, showcasing highly accomplished female pioneers and leading the way for the next generation of female leaders.
Each year, the conference features leading data scientists from industry and academia, including highly accomplished female international speakers, as well as leading female data scientists business experts and researchers from the region. This year’s event features a great line-up of global and regional data science experts and researchers, from Amazon, World Food Program, IMF, the World Bank, WHO, Harvard, U Michigan, University College London, Vanderbilt University, and many other organizations.
The conference provides an opportunity for participants of all genders to hear about the latest female-led data science research and applications. The general theme of WiDS this year is Data Science in Crises Management and features five tracks that focus on how data science is used to tackle the world’s most pressing challenges, including food security, disaster preparedness, infodemics, smart city and infrastructure systems, public policy, and epidemics, among other topics.
The AUB WiDS is organized by the Suliman S. Olayan School of Business (OSB), in collaboration with Dx Talks, Beirut Digital District, AUB Center for Advanced Mathematical Sciences, AUB Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, & Computing Hub, Talal and Madiha Zein AUB Innovation Park (iPark), AUB Faculty of Medicine, AUB Maroun Semaan Faculty of Engineering and Architecture, AUB Office of Innovation and Transformation, AUB|OSB Executive Education, AUB | OSB Career Management Services, and the Institute for Computational and Mathematical Engineering (ICME) unit at Stanford University.
